HANNAH MAY BIO

Hannah May is a renowned Australian singer-songwriter and vocal coach.

ARTIST

Based in Hobart, Tasmania Hannah May has been writing, singing and playing piano for over 20 years. Over the years Hannah’s soulful style has been compared to Carole King, Norah Jones and Missy Higgins, and she writes across styles from folk, to indie pop, music theatre and jazz.

She has worked with and performed alongside internationally acclaimed artists including  Clare Bowditch, Blur’s Damon Albarn (Sydney Opera House), Ian Moss, Wes Carr, The Audreys, Daniel Champagne, Bobby Flynn, and Monique Brumby.

In 2018, she performed at Paris Cat Jazz Club in Melbourne to a sold-out audience for a special tribute show alongside her own music titled 'Hannah May Sings Norah Jones.'  Her songs have been featured regularly on radio with her songs co-produced by Rob Long,  and Matt Boden - Sigh, Ring The Bell, and Little Flower  and Bottle of Tea (co-produced with  ARIA winning singer/songwriter Monique Brumby)  available on all major music platforms.  Her songs have received regular success through songwriting competitions over the years, including being placed 2nd in The National Australian Songwriting Competition.

She continues to build her craft through collaborations with other singers and songwriters, recording regularly and attending workshops/webinars with other songwriters from around the world.  She was also the Kickstart Arts 'Songwriting Mentor' for 2022 mentoring singer/songwriters.

She is currently working on releasing new music under Eliza Bird (MONA, Frying Pan Studios, Tas) and  Steve Scanlon (Melbourne based engineer and producer) and working with Somatic Voicework Vocal Coach Jeff Costello (USA).
