ARTIST
Based in Hobart, Tasmania Hannah May has been writing, singing and playing piano for over 20 years. Over the years Hannah’s soulful style has been compared to Carole King, Norah Jones and Missy Higgins, and she writes across styles from folk, to indie pop, music theatre and jazz. She has worked with and performed alongside internationally acclaimed artists including Clare Bowditch,, Blur’s Damon Albarn (Sydney Opera House), Ian Moss, Wes Carr, The Audreys, Daniel Champagne, Bobby Flynn, and Monique Brumby. In 2018, she performed at Paris Cat Jazz Club in Melbourne to a sold-out audience for a special tribute show alongside her own music titled 'Hannah May Sings Norah Jones.' Her songs have been featured regularly on radio with her songs co-produced by Rob Long, and Matt Boden - Sigh, Ring The Bell, and Little Flower and Bottle of Tea (co-produced with ARIA winning singer/songwriter Monique Brumby) available on all major music platforms. Her songs have received regular success through songwriting competitions over the years, including being placed 2nd in The National Australian Songwriting Competition. She continues to build her craft through collaborations with other singers and songwriters, recording regularly and attending workshops/webinars with other songwriters from around the world. She was also the Kickstart Arts 'Songwriting Mentor' for 2022 mentoring singer/songwriters.
COACH/TEACHER
Hannah May has been a vocal coach, singing teacher and mentor for over fourteen years, and has studied alongside local, national and international teachers and is passionate about continuing her own training with leading coaches. She is passionate about creating a warm and inviting space for singers of all levels to commence or continue their voice training using evidence based theory and practice tools. Hannah May holds a Bachelor of Music majoring in Contemporary Voice, and a Diploma in Music Performance from the University of Tasmania. Hannah May was the singing teach and vocal coach at Mount Carmel College for eight years. Hannah May is secretary for the board for ANATS (National Australian Association of Teachers of Singing Teachers) for Tasmania, and was the Tasmanian Rep for the National Board for 2020-2021.
She also holds a First Aid Vocal Health Certificate, and is currently completing her EFP Training through the Estill Vocal Method under Naomi Eyers. Hannah May is continuing her own vocal training under Dr. Marisa Lee Naismith (AUS) and Jeff Costello (USA). She is currently working on releasing new music under Eliza Bird (MONA, Frying Pan Studios, Tas) and Steve Scanlon (Melbourne based engineer and producer).
